Finish Is Yellowing

Cause
Solution
The use of oil-modified products. Oil-modified products such as High Solids Gym Finish (#234) will "amber" over time (darkening occurs most during first year) when applied to new or newly sanded floors. There is no solution to this problem other than sanding floor to bare wood and recoating with water-based products.

Most
Likely

Least
Likely

Cause
Solution
Floor is not dust mopped and cleaned often enough. Deep scrub and recoat floor. Keeping floors dust mopped and clean is the best prevention against soil penetration.
Improper or insufficient floor matting. Deep scrub and recoat floor. Walk-off mats should run perpendicular to the doorway so at least 5-8 steps are taken on the matting. Trapping soil at the door keeps it off the floor and greatly extends the life of finish.
Blacktop parking lot recently resealed. Try deep scrubbing using Sport Prep (#1127) and applying two coats of finish. Note: Coal tar contamination from freshly sealed parking lots can only be controlled through extensive matting and thorough cleaning.

Solution

Finish Has Taken On Alligator Skin Look

Cause
Solution
Ice melter contamination. Increase length of matting at entranceways and cleaning frequency of mats. Make sure to spot mop entranceways thoroughly when ice-melting compound is being used and to change mop water frequently. Use Blue Concentrate (#2085) in place of Nu-Tral Cleaner (#507) for more thorough cleaning. Minor damage can be repaired by deep scrubbing using Sport Prep (#1127) and apply one or two coats of finish. Severe damage may require sand-screening.
