Wood Floor Care Manual

Sealing New Floors or Newly Sanded Floors

Step 1:
Final sand floor with a 120-grit
screen.

Step 2:
Vacuum floor thoroughly to remove all dust.

Step 3:
Thoroughly tack floor twice with clean lint-free towels slightly moistened with Waterless Cleaner (#1130). Be sure to rotate and change tacking towels often.

Step 4:
Inspect floor. It should be dust-free. If dust is still present, re-tack the floor.


Step 5:
Apply one coat of OMU Wood Seal (#230) according to label directions. Allow it to dry for 12 hours under normal conditions - longer under humid conditions.


Step 6:
Lightly sand the floor with previously used 120-grit screen or #2 steel wool pad.


Step 7:
Vacuum floor thoroughly to remove all dust.


Step 8:
Thoroughly tack floor twice with clean lint-free towels slightly moistened with Waterless Cleaner (#1130).


Step 9:
Mark game lines using 100% alkyd enamel paint. Allow paint to dry for 12 hours. For game line details, refer to MFMA web site.


Step 10:
Lightly abrade game lines according to paint manufacturer's directions and then tack as indicated above.


Step 11:
Apply two coats of High Solids Gym Finish (#234) or three coats of 40% Gym Finish (#293) if using oil-modified products. If using water-based finish, apply three coats of Sport Kote
®(#222). Consult labels for complete finishing details, dry times and facility downtimes.

Step 12:
Let the floor dry completely before applying finish.
