Preparing Wood Floors For Recoating

Auto Scrubber Method
Floor Condition 1 or 2

Step 1: Gather Equipment
and Supplies

Consult Materials Checklist

Step 2:
Remove tape, labels and gum with a razor scraper or putty knife. Angle the blade so you don’t damage the finish. Sticker and label residue can be removed with Waterless Cleaner (#1130) or Citrus Degreaser (#1185).

Step 3:
Dust mop the floor.

Step 4:
Fill auto-scrubber reservoir or mop bucket with
Sport Prep™ (#1127) diluted 32 ounces per gallon (1:4).

Step 5:
Scrub the floor with blue, brown or black pads with auto-scrubber solution flow on, vacuum off and squeegee up. Pad choice depends on floor condition and the size (weight) of auto-scrubber. Let solution dwell for approximately five minutes. Keep solution area to about 1,000 square feet.

Step 6:
Scrub the floor a second time with solution flow off, vacuum on and squeegee down. Be sure to flip or change pads as they pick up soil.

Step 7:
When the entire floor is clean, rinse the floor with auto-scrubber equipped with red pads using Nu-Tral Cleaner (#507) diluted 2 ounces per gallon (1:64).

Step 8:
Inspect the floor. It should be dull and clean. Trace amounts of white residue from the previous finish are okay. If large amounts are present, rinse the floor again. Let the floor dry completely before finish application.

Note: This floor preparation method is NOT recommended on parquet floors or tongue and groove strip floors that are poorly finished and/or contain gaps between floor boards.
