The Street
Keeping Your Gym Floor Clean
Gym floor
refinishing can be a big investment in time and money. In order to maximize
your customer’s investment and keep things looking their best,
you’ll want to stress the importance of frequent maintenance.
The following procedures and recommendations will help keep wood floors
clean and shiny.
- All
entrances should have sufficient walk-off mats. Generally, 8-10 feet
of matting is the minimum for good soil removal.
-
Prohibit street shoes on gym floor. Athletic shoes that are used on
the street should also be prohibited on the gym floor.
-
Carefully remove tape, labels and gum with a putty knife. Angle the
blade so you don’t damage the finish.
-
Dust mop as frequently as possible (at the minimum, twice per day).
If possible, mop every two to three hours during heavy usage. Be sure
to only use a dust mop that is dedicated to the gym floor. After dust
mopping, thoroughly shake the mop out (away from the gym floor) to
remove embedded soil.
-
Wet clean the floor weekly with Nu-Tral
Cleaner (#507) in an auto-scrubber. If a scrubber is not available,
use a damp mop. During severe weather months, more frequent cleaning
may be required. Be sure to avoid saturating the floor with cleaner
solution.
