Floor Care Tips

With the summer floor stripping and refinishing season in full swing, now is a good time to review a series of “tips” that will allow your customers to get the most out of their hard work.

  • Use walk-off mats at all entrances and vacuum them regularly.
  • Change dust mop heads frequently.
  • Always use clean mops (preferably new) when refinishing.
  • Mops specifically marketed for finish application work much better than old technology cotton mops.
  • Keep mops separate for daily cleaning, stripping, rinsing (after stripping) and finishing. Do not interchange.
  • Use black pads for stripping (brown for sensitive flooring), green or blue pads for deep scrubbing prior to recoating and red pads for cleaning. Replace worn pads or pads clogged with finish/soil. Stripping pads can often be sprayed or scraped clean to extend their life.
  • Use burnishing pads that are appropriate to the finish on the floor (see http://www.essind.com/FloorCare/FF-line.htm).
  • Follow label directions closely – not just for floor finish but also for stripper and neutral cleaner.
  • Do not pour unused chemicals back into their original container – especially floor finish.
  • Keep machinery clean and in good working order.
  • Always rinse auto-scrubber after each use.
  • Always rinse mops, buckets and sink after use.
  • Do not leave dirty solutions of any type in mop buckets.

By following these simple tips, you’ll ensure a better looking, longer lasting floor.
