Spring 2008 - Article 2
Sports Floor Update
Adding Three-Point Line
In our last issue of Essentially Speaking, we outlined the NCAA’s plans for extending the men’s three-point line. Today, we review the procedures for adding the new line (to review the overview article from the last issue, visit http://www.essind.com/News/NWLTR-intro.htm and look under the archive area).
- Prep entire floor as you would for a normal recoat. For some of you that means wet screening and for others that means using an auto-scrubber and pads.
- Wet screen the area where the new three-point line is to go using 150 screens and either Citrus Scrub ’N Shine (#525) or Sport Prep (#1127). Make sure the area is well screened as this is critical for paint adhesion.
- Tape floor for new three-point line.
- Paint line using a contrasting color to the existing three-point line. (If the current line is dark, use a lighter color for the new line).
- Remove tape soon after paint application so as not to pull off existing finish under tape.
- Repeat steps 2 – 5 on other end of the floor.
- Allow lines to dry for at least 24 hours, more if humid conditions exist.
- Abrade new game lines with a doodle-bug or
sanding block.
- Tack lines well and re-tack entire floor.
- Apply two coats of Sport Kote® (#222) or
appropriate OMU to the entire floor.
