Resilient Floor Care Manual

New Flooring Maintenance Procedures
New vinyl flooring should be properly finished to withstand commercial traffic and achieve optimum appearance. It is best to wait two weeks before applying floor finish. This allows proper cure time for tile adhesive.

Note: Always check with floor installer for recommended initial maintenance procedures.

FINISHING NEW FLOORING: INITIAL MAINTENANCE

Step 1: Sweep and Dust Mop
Sweep and dust mop regularly. Do not wash the floor for five days after installation.

Step 2: Spot Mop
If necessary, spot mop spills with Nu-Tral Cleaner (#507) solution.

Step 3:
Apply Finish
If final finishing is to be delayed (more than two weeks), a temporary application of two coats of Durabrite Floor Finish (#253) may be applied to protect the floor from dirt and construction traffic until regular maintenance procedures can be implemented.

FINISHING NEW FLOORING:
FOR COMMERCIAL USE

Step 1: Scrub Floor
Scrub the floor with Nu-tral Cleaner (#507) diluted 2 oz. per gallon (1:64). Use a single disc floor machine (150-300 RPM) equipped with a blue pad. An automatic floor scrubber with blue pads may also be used with squeegees down and vacuum on. Minimal solution contact time will prevent damage to new tile installations.

Step 2: Apply Stripper
If floor finish has been applied or if the floor is badly marked and soiled, strip it using Speed Stripper (#2888) diluted 1:5 with cool water (pH 10 or less in use dilution). Be careful not to “flood” floor. Use a single disc floor machine (150 - 300 rpm) equipped with a strip pad. Scrub the floor in a side-to-side motion. Vacuum up stripper residue. Rinse well and allow to dry.

STEP 3: Apply Finish
Apply appropriate floor finish in multiple thin coats (maximum of four coats in a single day). Allow a minimum of 30 minutes between each coat. Be sure to apply only two coats in the 6-inch area next to baseboards.
