FLOOR SEALERS

My facility contains VCT (vinyl composition tile) on the floors. Does this surface need to be sealed and finished or can finish just be applied?
Most resilient floor surfaces do not need to be sealed. It is completely optional.

What about old VAT (vinyl asbestos tile)? Does this need to be sealed?
With this floor, it's best to definitely seal. The reason is two-fold. First, since it is asbestos-containing tile, sealing with a semi-permanent seal like Acrylic Undercoater-Sealer (#272) keeps the asbestos where it belongs - in the tile and out of the air. Secondly, most VAT is porous. Porous floors should be filled with sealer before finishing.

I notice that Acrylic Undercoater-Sealer (#272) is semi-permanent. How do you recommend stripping this product?
If you must strip, we recommend a 1:1 dilution of Speed Stripper (#2888). Let the solution dwell for 5 minutes, re-mop and then scrub with black pads. A second application will likely be needed.

How many coats of seal do you recommend I apply to a stripped floor?
Up to two coats is sufficient.

My facility contains brand new VCT. Does it require any special preparation before finishing?
Generally, we recommend cleaning the floor with Nu-Tral Cleaner (#507) and a blue pad. Then, apply two coats of R F S (#280). Wait two to four weeks, strip floor and apply sealer and/or finish of your choice.
